As President of FCYC for 2008 I thought it would be good to write you and let you know where we stand and what our future holds for us. At our Jan. evaluation/planning meeting, Me (Matt Cutler), Chris Marsden (Past President now), Dan Henko, Bruce Humphrey, and three other guys showed up. We were not able to elect any new officers, nor were we able to change any by-laws to bring them up to date - because there was not a good representation.
I gave out the assignment to the few guys that were there to talk to other youth workers and pastors in their area of the state to find out their thoughts on FCYC. In general it seems as if there is not much interest in FCYC from the north of the state to the Southwest of the state. There are churches from here and there that are very interested, but then also some of those churches are only able to attend and not help plan it. The overall majority though seem to be doing other things and sometimes things that are more regional. It seems that FCYC has run its course for a while. Based on many of these things and some others, I took some time to fast a pray regularly over the future of FCYC. I then got the information from a few guys about what they have heard about FCYC, and then got opinions from those guys about FCYC.
We have come to the conclusion that we should lay FCYC to rest. It has served its purpose and now there are other things that have taken its place. Know that this is not an easy decision to come too. It is never easy to cease to have something, but there are times that it needs to happen. Sometimes those of us in the Christian Church hang onto things way past when we should and then burn people out, or burn bridges. It is always better to go out on a big note. In the future maybe something else will be born and it will reach many kids as FCYC did. As a side note I believe that we have seen this happen with the Florida Christian Convention as well. it has been time for it to be laid to rest with the lack of interest. This decision will make it easier for fall retreats to happen and for FCC Impact to not have competition of the dollar, and fundraising for CIY in the spring won't have to be competed for.
Our band and speaker have all been told, and no money was spent for them to get ready for this years event. Our event location has been told as well. The only last money that will be spent is promised money for mission trip this summer with New Mission System. Please write if you have questions or comments. I am willing to listen. Know though that FCYC 2008 is canceled based on good Godly wisdom. Thank you for having participated in it in the past. Hope to see you all sometime - even if that is heaven.
Your friend and 2008 FCYC President,
Matt Cutler
